Open Source
PDF20 is built on open-source software. This page explains where to find our frontend source code and the licenses that apply.
PDF20 frontend source code
The source code for the open-source PDF20 frontend is available on GitHub. The repository includes the project license and the materials published for building and modifying the frontend.
License
Unless a file or bundled third-party component states otherwise, the source code in the repository is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License version 3 only (AGPL-3.0-only).
You may use, study, copy, modify, and distribute covered code subject to the license terms. If you modify AGPL-covered software and make that modified version available for users to interact with over a network, you must offer those users the corresponding source code for that version as required by the AGPL.
Scope of the repository
The public repository covers the open-source frontend. Account management, payments, analytics services, hosted infrastructure, private configuration, and other service-backed features used by the hosted PDF20 service may be maintained separately and are not necessarily included in the repository.
The website may make ordinary network requests to load site resources or use optional online features. For supported document tools, the contents of selected files are processed locally in the browser as described in our Privacy Policy and Security page.
Third-party software
PDF20 includes software from other open-source projects. Important document-processing components include:
- Ghostscript and the bundled Ghostscript WebAssembly integration — AGPL-3.0.
- PyMuPDF and MuPDF — AGPL-3.0.
- pdf2docx — AGPL-3.0.
- PDF.js — Apache-2.0.
- pdf-lib — MIT.
- Tesseract.js — Apache-2.0.
Third-party components retain their own copyright notices and license terms. The applicable LICENSE and README files distributed with those components provide the controlling terms. Anyone redistributing a build is responsible for preserving required notices and providing the corresponding source and build materials required by the applicable licenses.
Trademarks and branding
Open-source licenses grant copyright permissions. They do not grant permission to use the PDF20 name, logo, domain name, or other branding in a way that suggests affiliation with, sponsorship by, or endorsement from the official PDF20 service. Modified and independently hosted versions should identify themselves clearly.
No warranty
The open-source software is provided without warranty, to the extent permitted by applicable law. Review the AGPL and the applicable third-party licenses for the complete warranty disclaimers and limitation-of-liability terms.
